Seit 2007 fördert der „Ökumenische 1Welt-Kreis im Erbstromtal“ (Ruhla) mit Hilfe von Bildungspaten, Spendern und medialer Unterstützung die Bildung und Berufsausbildung von Kindern und Jugendlichen aus der ärmsten Bevölkerungsschicht in Ruanda.

Dafür möchte ich heute einmal allen danken, die unser Projekt seit dieser Zeit unterstützt haben und dies noch tun!
Unser kleiner Gemeindekreis hat im Laufe der Jahre naturgemäß Höhen und Tiefen in dieser Arbeit erlebt, konnte aber immer auf Gottes und der Menschen Hilfe zählen. Und das erfüllt uns mit Dankbarkeit und Freude.

Mit diesen Zeilen danke ich zum einen den Tageszeitungen der Mediengruppe Thüringen Verlag GmbH, der Kirchenzeitung „Glaube und Heimat“, dem Wartburgradio, der Ruhlaer Zeitung sowie weiteren Medien, die immer wieder einmal über unser Projekt berichten, und damit Aufmerksamkeit erweckt haben.
Zum anderen danke ich allen Kirchengemeinden und Kirchenkreisen, die das Projekt im Rahmen des 2%-Appells der EKM mit ihren Spenden bedacht haben und noch bedenken!

Wie wichtig diese Spenden sind, hat sich einmal mehr in der gegenwärtigen Pandemie-Phase gezeigt. Die durch strikte Ausgangsbeschränkungen zum Daheimbleiben gewzungenen Familien unserer Patenkinder, deren Eltern zum größten Teil Tagelöhner sind, waren von akutem Hunger bedroht. Wir haben ihnen zweimal eine Nahrungsmittelhilfe in Höhe von insgesamt rund 6000 € zur Verfügung stellen können.
Unsere Verantwortung für die Kinder und Jugendlichen bleibt, auch und gerade jenseits von außergewöhnlichen Ereignissen, darum freuen wir uns über alle künftige Unterstützung.

Since 2007, the „Ecumenical 1World-Circle in the Erbstromtal Valley“ (Ruhla, Germany) has been promoting the education and vocational training of children and young people from the poorest section of the population in Rwanda with the help of educational sponsors, donors and media support.

For this I would like to thank all those who have supported our project since then and are still doing so!
Our small group of volunteers has naturally experienced ups and downs in this work over the years, but has always been able to count on God’s and people’s help. And this fills us with gratitude and joy.

With these lines, I would like to thank the daily newspapers of the Mediengruppe Thüringen Verlag GmbH, the church newspaper „Glaube und Heimat“, the Wartburgradio, the news paper Ruhlaer Zeitung and other media which have reported on our project now and then and thus attracted attention.
On the other hand, I would like to thank all the parishes and church districts who have considered and are still considering the project in the context of the 2% appeal of the Evangelical church in Central Germany with their donations!

How important these donations are has once again been demonstrated in the current pandemic phase. The families of our sponsored children, most of whose parents are day labourers, were forced to stay at home by strict exit restrictions and were threatened by acute hunger. We have twice been able to provide them with food aid totalling around €6000.
Our responsibility for the children and young people remains, also and especially beyond extraordinary events, so we look forward to all future support.

Eines unserer Patenkinder in Ruanda, welches gehörlos ist, hat es zu einiger „Internet-Berühmtheit“ geschafft. Dabei hat das Mädchen es sicher nicht beabsichtigt. Sie wurde von einem Filmteam ausgewählt, weil sie offen und quicklebendig ist.

Bei dem Video handelt es sich um einen musikalischen Promotion-Film für Zeichensprache und Integration von Gehörlosen des Youtube-Kanals „Media for deaf Rwanda“.
Das Mädchen spielt im Video die „Hauptrolle“. Sie ist gleich am Anfang zu sehen und dann auch in dem karierten Kleid. Ich kenne sie und sie ist wirklich ein lebendiges und begabtes Mädchen. Gut, daß wir sie im Programm haben!

Seit der Veröffentlichung des Videos vor 2 Monaten wurde es immerhin schon von 8520 Nutzern angeklickt (Stand 29.7.2019). Es ist erfreulich, daß die Gehörlosen auf diese Weise ins Bewußtsein gerückt werden, denn behinderte Menschen haben nach wie vor mit Vorurteilen und Benachteiligung bzw mangelnder Beachtung zu kämpfen.

One of our sponsored children in Rwanda, who is deaf, has made it to some „Internet celebrity“. The girl certainly did not intend it. She was chosen by a film team because she is open and lively.

The video is a musical promotion film for sign language and integration of deaf people of the Youtube channel „Media for deaf Rwanda“.
The girl plays the „leading role“ in the video. She can be seen right at the beginning and then also in the checkered dress. I know her and she is really a lively and talented girl. Good that we have her in the program!

Since the release of the video 2 months ago it has already been clicked by 8520 users (July, 29, 2019). It is pleasing that the deaf are brought into consciousness in this way, because disabled people still have to fight with prejudices and discrimination or lack of attention.

Vor der Konfirmation bedenken wir in Ruhla jedes Jahr, welchen Menschen in Not das Konfirmandendankopfer zugute kommen soll. Dabei achten wir darauf, daß es in ein Projekt fließt, zu dem unsere Kirchgemeinde eine Beziehung hat. Denn damit wird sichergestellt, daß wir auch nachprüfen können, ob und wie die Spenden sinnvoll angewendet werden. Außerdem können die jungen Leute eine etwas persönlichere Beziehung zu den unterstützten Jugendlichen aufbauen, die zum Teil im gleichen Alter sind.
Mit diesem Dankopfer bringen unsere Jugendlichen ihren Dank für die Segnungen in ihrem Leben gegenüber Gott zum Ausdruck. Und sie teilen von dem, was sie haben, mit denen, die Hilfe brauchen; ganz so, wie es Jesus Christus von Christen erwartet.
In diesem Jahr haben die Konfirmanden wieder die Wahl zwischen mehreren Projekten gehabt. Sie haben entschieden, daß ihre Gabe für das Bildungsprojekt in Ruanda bestimmt sein soll. Dafür sind wir sehr dankbar. Gott segne die Konfirmanden und die Jugendlichen in Ruanda, denen damit geholfen wird.

Wir empfehlen auch anderen Konfirmandengruppen, ein solches Dankopfer für unser Ruanda-Projekt zu sammeln.

Before the confirmation, we consider every year in Ruhla which people in need should benefit from the confirmation thanksgiving sacrifice. At the end of November I visited the Irembo Foundation facility. Bertrand Ishimwe founded this organization with Spanish friendly assistance. As his education was made possible through a U.S. sponsor, he was motivated to ‚pay it forward.‘ It was his idea to found a center for the underprivileged children of impoverished single mothers and poor families in Kacyiro, a part of the capitol city Kigali. The majority of these children’s parents are unable to afford the basic educational expense of appropriate clothing, books and supplies. A Spanish lady friend of Bertrand’s collected from friends, acquaintances and family members, the necessary funds to open the Mother Rwanda Center and equip it sewing machines, material and supplies, so that the mothers of Kacyiro could become self-sufficient. It has been expanded to shoe production and sewing classes. More than 140 children from the community regularly participate in the provided social and cultural events. Consequently, some 50 children are enjoying their educational opportunity.

Two of these children have become recipients of educational support through our 1 World Group. The foster parent family is German

Ousamu lives with his parents and two siblings. The mother has become a seamstress through the Mother Rwanda Center classes. The father drives for a motorcycle taxi company, to which he pays a daily fee for vehicle usage. Often it is the case when the income doesn’t cover this expense. They consider themselves fortunate when at the end of the day all have been fed and the monthly rent for their hut is paid punctually.

Parfait live in a very small apartment with her mother, grandmother and two siblings. The mother had to leave school because of a pregnancy. The man responsible for the three children is a student and either unable or unwilling to offer any support to the family. Simple survival is their daily quest.
The hope for better is that Parfait’s mother has also become a seamstress.

Through the support of their German foster parents, both children will begin primary school in February. Their education is now secured through the completion of their Primary School as well as the basic health insurance. The immediate family members are also covered during this period at an annual cost of $4.50 per person. Within typical living conditions, sickness is common so we do all we can to insure the general health and well-being of the family.
Without health insurance a sick mother and/or children do not go to the doctor as they are not able to pay for the examinations. This insurance pays for the examination, diagnosis and basic prescribed medication.

These two examples of the foster children/parent partnership show what can be accomplished educationally. At the beginning of this year we had an additional 26 applicants recommended by relatives and teachers and are in present need of foster parent support. Only through the support of new foster parents will they be able to either begin or continue their education.  February 2nd is the start date for the new school year. On this date the tuitions must be paid or the children must wait for another year. Without their being able to focus on education, some will land up on the street, some will herd goats and cows while others will be destined to menial labor for neighbors, relatives just in order to receive daily meals.

There is one particularly pressing case which resulted from a foster parent unfortunately having to withdraw herself as a foster parent. She supported Sophie, a student in a school for the blind. Sophie finished her Primary education at the end of 2015, is qualified and accepted to begin her Secondary education.  We have never had to stop a foster child’s education. I feel confident that there will be someone who will sympathize with Sophie’s situation.
