Mitte April war es endlich soweit: die Schulen wurden in Ruanda wieder geöffnet und endlich konnten die Kinder wieder lernen und ihre Klassenkameraden treffen.
Davon können wir in Deutschland leider bisher nur träumen. Offenbar hat es die Regierung in Ruanda sehr gut verstanden, frühzeitig die richtigen Maßnahmen zu treffen und eine gute Infrastruktur für den Umgang mit dem Corona-Virus zu schaffen.

Wir freuen uns jedenfalls, daß unsere Kinder endlich wieder lernen können und so ein Stück Lebensnormalität zurückkehrt.
Im Zuge der Schulöffnungen durfte endlich auch das „HUYE RESOURCE CENTER FOR SPECIAL NEED EDUCATION OF CHILDREN WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES“ in Butare öffnen. Das Zentrum betreut geistig behinderte Kinder und Jugendliche, die bis zu einem gewissen Grad lernfähig sind und mit den erworbenen Fähigkeiten in der Lage sein werden, ein einfaches Einkommen zum Lebensunterhalt zu erwirtschaften.

Die Vorsitzende des Trägervereins „Amizero Y’Ubuzima Organization“, Frau Mushimyimana, leitet unser Bildungspatenschaftsprogramm als externes Projekt und wir haben sie gefragt ob es möglich wäre, daß die Kinder unseres Patenschaftsprojekts in dem Zentrum aufgenommen werden könnten, die eine geistige Behinderung haben. Unserem Wunsch wurde entsprochen und seit April haben diese Kinder nun eine neue Heimat in dem Zentrum gefunden.
Das hat mehrere Vorteile: sie leben an einem Platz in einer Gemeinschaft mit anderen Kindern, dazu wird die Betreuung erheblich erleichtert und eine gleichbleibende Qualität gewährleistet. Zuvor lebten die Kinder in verschiedenen Regionen des Landes unter sehr unterschiedlichen Verhältnissen. Durch die Patenschaften wird zugleich mitgeholfen, die kontinuierliche Arbeit des Zentrums abzusichern.

Deshalb ermutigen wir Sie, liebe Leser, ein Kind dieses Zentrums durch eine Patenschaft zu fördern. Das hilft nicht nur dem Patenkind, sondern auch dem Zentrum, und mithin allen Kindern, die dort betreut werden.

Unfortunately, we in Germany can only dream of this so far. Apparently, the government in Rwanda understood very well to take the right measures early on and to create a good infrastructure for dealing with the Corona virus.

In any case, we are happy that our children can finally learn again and that a bit of normality has returned to their lives.
In the course of the school openings, the „HUYE RESOURCE CENTER FOR SPECIAL NEED EDUCATION OF CHILDREN WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES“ in Butare was finally allowed to open. The centre looks after mentally disabled children and young people who are capable of learning to a certain extent and will be able to earn a simple living income with the skills they have acquired.

The chairperson of the „Amizero Y’Ubuzima Organisation“, Mrs. Mushimyimana, runs our educational sponsorship programme as an external project and we asked her if it would be possible for the children of our sponsorship project who have a mental handicap to be admitted to the centre. Our wish was granted and since April these children have found a new home in the centre.

This has several advantages: they live in one place in a community with other children, in addition the care is much easier and a constant quality is guaranteed. Previously, the children lived in different regions of the country under very different circumstances. At the same time, the sponsorships help to secure the continuous work of the centre.

Therefore, we encourage you, dear readers, to sponsor a child of this centre. This not only helps the sponsored child, but also the centre, and thus all the children who are cared for there.

Do you celebrate your birthday every year? Probably a strange question, isn’t it? But a friend of our project celebrates his birthday for the first time in 40 years!
But in an unusual way! He would like you to help him to celebrate this birthday in a special way – and we ask you to help him. But read for yourself!

„My name is Charles Hategekimana from Rwanda and I’m turning 40 years old on March 18, 2020. Practically, I have never celebrated any of my 39 birthdays due to some past circumstances faced in life, that many other people around the world may be facing today.
In fact, this was due to my rural upbringing where most people do not celebrate birthdays as such. I have never experienced it as part of our rural culture. I sometimes conclude that birthday celebration is not really a rural culture, at least referring to my context that I know very well.
For many, there are more needs than just spending on birthdays. Having not celebrated my birthday in my history on earth is also related to the Rwandan history that many people of the world know whereby the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi has psychologically affected many people, including myself. Until many years in its aftermath and even today, psychological consequences are are still felt and not easy to escape. It is funny that even when I got the possibility to celebrate my birthday, I never felt any need. My lovely wife Anitha can testify more on this, but please don’t ask her and don’t also tell our 3 under 10 daughters 😁

Moreover, even during a couple of years (2009-2011 and 2017 to date) that I have spent outside of Rwanda, I have never felt any need to celebrate my birthday in spite of some good friends of mine trying to surprise me and eventually inviting me for their own birthdays. I enjoy these moments anyway. Interestingly, I don’t even plan to celebrate this 40th birthday for myself, but rather I am thinking of many other vulnerable children in Rwanda, like anywhere else in the world, who are going through terrible situations such as lack of education, food and shelter among other basic things of life.

Therefore, if you are willing to support one or more of those vulnerable children in Rwanda, please donate anything small or big through the attached link. You will be helping me to celebrate my 4th decade (40th Birthday) on earth this way while I am even far away from my family doing my PhD project in Germany, also directed to rural areas and vulnerable people in my home-country. Die Reihe „Kultur im Winkel“ der Ev.-Luth. Kirchengemeinde Ruhla feiert in diesem Jahr ihr 15jähriges Jubiläum. Seit ihrem ersten Konzert im Mai 2004 haben über 18.000 Zuhörer Konzerte und andere kulturelle Veranstaltungen in der St. Concordia-Kirche zu Ruhla besucht. Gemessen an der Tatsache, daß Ruhla eine Kleinstadt ist, hat die Kulturreihe damit eine große Beachtung gefunden – und wird hoffentlich auch noch in Zukunft mehr Besucher anlocken.

In diesem Jubiläumsjahr wird die Reihe mit einem Konzert des Rappers CANNACHRIS eröffnet. Zur Verstärkung bringt er noch zwei Gäste mit: den Drummer Bertram David aus Eisenach und den Rapper sAAbuZZa aus Erfurt.

Das Besondere an diesem Konzert ist nicht nur die Tatsache, daß es das erste Rap-Konzert in der St. Concordia-Kirche ist, sondern daß es sich dabei um ein Benefiz-Konzert handelt!
Denn der Erlös des Konzerts soll für die Förderung junger musikalischer Talente in Ruanda bestimmt sein. Was wir damit vorhaben, können Sie an einem Beispiel hier lesen. Auch in Zukunft wollen wir weitere junge Menschen mit künstlerischen Begabungen fördern.

Der Eintritt zu dem Rap-Konzert ist frei. Stattdessen bitten wir um großzügige Spenden!

The concert series „Kultur im Winkel“ (Culture in the angle) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Ruhla celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Since their first concert in May 2004, over 18,000 listeners have attended concerts and other cultural events in the St. Concordia Church in Ruhla. Compared to the fact that Ruhla is a small town, the cultural series has attracted a lot of attention – and will hopefully attract more visitors in the future.

In this anniversary year the series will open with a concert by the rapper CANNACHRIS. In order to increase the attractiveness of the event he will bring two more guests: the drummer Bertram David from Eisenach and the rapper sAAbuZZa from Erfurt.

What is special about this concert is not only the fact that it is the first RAP concert in the St. Concordia church, but also that it is a charity concert!
Because the proceeds of the concert should be intended for the promotion of young musical talents in Rwanda. You can read using an example what we intend to do with it here. In the future we want to support more young people with artistic talents.
