FOREWORD

First and foremost, I would like to convey my special regards to all of you who have rekindled my career through the sponsorship program. I salute you in the name of almighty GOD!
My name is Joseph (name changed), one of the students who was sponsored through the sponsorship program. I had not had any idea about my brighter future because of difficulties I used to meet which were remarkably stampedes that could not allow me to continue my education.

Having raised in a vulnerable family associated with difficulties in living standards, that caused me to feel isolated and worthless and that nobody loves me and it developed a merciless spirit in me so that I could not get a good understanding with others or feel like helping others.

But everything turned up and relieved after being knocked on by the sponsorship program where I became like a new born again person who could be able of determining the career and my heart rejoiced to the extent of feeling the spirit of mutual collaboration and partnership with all of my fellows. I have a great ambition of reflecting this helpful spirit to entire society.
I really appreciate everyone who unceasingly committed to assisting me in every single step I take. Your untiring efforts and emphasis are heartedly appreciated because you made me someone special; someone who can dream big; someone who can stand still and determine the destiny.
I can neither mention nor count over all changes that have been made due to the introduction of sponsorship program but an overview about the situation before, during and after being linked to sponsorship program has been formulated.
May this sponsorship program enlarge and widespread!

MY LIVING AND EDUCATIONAL SITUATION BEFORE I CAME INTO SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
Before I came into sponsorship program, my living situation was not good of course as I grew up in a poor family. I was always worried about what the next day would bring because I had no hope for the future.
I remember when I was almost going to miss the chance to go into the secondary school. When I passed the primary national examination that allows students from primary school to go in the secondary school, my family was so broke. And so there was no option other than staying at home as if nothing had happened. I was extremely shocked so that I could not even sleep at night thinking of how I was going to quit my education.
Then later on, by the grace of God, I do not know where my family got money from; eventually, they bought for me some of the required scholastic materials as they could not afford all the required materials, and hardly gave me school fees and then sent me to school even if I was two weeks late.
My secondary school was situated in southern province. I went there without any pocket money, without even the money for the ticket that would take me back home at the end of the first trimester. That’s how I started secondary school studies. At this time it was not easy. So the beginning of the first trimester of first year up to the last trimester of third year of ordinal level of secondary school, was always a hard time for me because I was always worried and wondering where and how to find school fees and other scholastic materials.
But no matter how hard the situation was, I managed to pass the national examination that was the bridge I had to cross from the ordinal level to the advanced level studies where I was sent to a good technical school, where I started the 4th year of secondary school in the option of public works. At this time I was going to need much money for school fees and more school requirements.

MY LIVING AND EDUCATIONAL SITUATION AFTER COMING INTO SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

I came into sponsorship program in 2008 when I was going to start the 4th year of secondary school. From this time my whole life changed and became so good since I knew that the school fees was not going to be a problem anymore. For every start of the trimester I was given the money for both school fees and scholastic materials from the first trimester of the 4th year up to the last trimester of the 6th year of secondary school and whenever I met an unforeseen difficult problem to handle, I could call and ask for help.
The sponsorship program played a vital role in my daily life on behalf of my family since when they could know and solve all the problems I met during my educational life. I really appreciate their advice and commitment towards my brighter future that geared me to emphasize on my academics and determine my career which resulted into successful pass of senior six programs and I was admitted to join university programs through national scholarship program.
At this time I was so happy because I knew that I was going to study in university with a monthly living allowance and this time I thought that the sponsorship program was going to quit supporting me, but they kept on helping me till the end of my university studies because they knew how the given living allowance was not enough to meet all the needs of a university student. And so with the support from sponsorship program I could pay for accommodation, food and all of my basic needs.
Apart from paying school fees for a student like me, a staff member of the sponsorship program used to visit me regularly both at school and at home to make sure that everything was always okay with me. So the sponsorship program has always been with me during my educational life since the day I joined it.
Since the day I came into the program, I quit worrying about school fees, and this helped me to get down to my studies. So the sponsorship program has been so helpful to me personally and to my family because it brought back the lost hope to me and I started to believe that it is possible to have a brighter future.

WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I HAD NOT HAD THE CHANCE TO BENEFIT FROM THE SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM?

I cannot tell exactly what would have happened if I had not had the chance to benefit from the sponsorship program but it is obvious to insist that it would not be good at all. May be I would have dropped out of school or I should have kept on studying but in very bad conditions that would have resulted in failing from school that would finally result in leaving the school for good.

POSSIBILITIES I HAVE NOW SINCE I COULD MAKE A SCHOOL EDUCATION AND STUDY THANKS TO THE HELP OF MY FOSTER MOTHER

The support I have been given by sponsorship program changed my whole life and made me who I am today. Now I’m a younger engineer, I completed my academic courses and graduated from university in 2015 in the faculty of engineering, department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering and this gives me the hope of getting a good job in the coming days since I can apply for different job positions related to my professional field. Meanwhile, I’m working as a technician as it is not easy to get a good job right after graduation. This per now occupation has facilitated me to rely on myself rather than mooching off my family.
I have no hesitation to air out my advocacy on other vulnerable children to be approached and get the same opportunity. I reassure the sponsors that their support is meaningful and contribute much to the needy and I encourage them to keep that sponsoring spirit. In this regard, I would like to thank firstly, the founder of the sponsorship program Pastor Gerhard and all members of this program and my special thanks go to my foster mother who appeared to me like an angel sent from heaven to change my life, because all I was given through the sponsorship program was from her. I can proudly say that she is the one who made me who I am today.
I would like to thank again Pastor Gerhard for being an intermediate between me and my foster mother.
I cannot wind up giving thanks without conveying my appreciation to the manager of this sponsorship program, Mr. Dietmar.

Vorwort

Zuerst möchte ich besonders alle grüßen, die meine Karriere durch das Bildungsförderungsprogramm entscheidend beeinflußt haben. Ich grüße euch im Namen des allmächtigen Gottes!
Mein Name ist Joseph (Name geändert), einer der Studenten, die durch das Bildungsförderungsprogramm gefördert wurden. Ich hatte keine Vorstellung von einer besseren Zukunft wegen der enormen Schwierigkeiten, mit denen ich konfrontiert war, und von denen ich nicht wußte, wie ich sie bewältigen sollte, um meine Ausbildung fortzusetzen.

Die Tatsache, daß ich in einer sozial schwachen Familie in armen Verhältnissen aufgewachsen bin, verursachte in mir das Gefühl, daß mich niemand liebt und ich wertlos sei. In mir wuchs ein Geist der Unbarmherzigkeit, so daß ich mich mit anderen nicht gut verstand und nicht bereit war zu helfen, wo Hilfe gebraucht wurde.
Als ich in das Patenschaftsprogramm aufgenommen wurde, änderte sich mein ganzes Leben und ich war wie neu geboren! Endlich konnte ich meine berufliche Entwicklung zielstrebig verfolgen und ich empfand große Freude in meinem Herzen in einem Maße, daß ich in mir die Bereitschaft zur Zusammenarbeit und Partnerschaft mit all meinen Mitschülern spürte. Mein Ehrgeiz ist, diesen Geist gegenseitiger Unterstützung in die ganze Gesellschaft hineinzutragen.

Ich danke allen von Herzen, die mich ohne Unterlaß bei jedem einzelnen Schritt unterstützt haben. Ihre unermüdlichen Anstrengungen wertschätze ich sehr, weil sie mich zu einem besonderen Menschen gemacht haben; jemand, der große Träume hat; jemand, der innehalten und sich seiner Bestimmung bewußt werden kann.
Ich kann weder aufzählen noch alle Veränderungen erwähnen, die das Bildungsförderungsprogramm in meinem Leben bewirkt hat, sondern möchte nur einen kleinen Überblick über meine Zeit davor, während und danach geben.

Möge sich das Bildungsförderungsprogramm ausdehnen und weithin bekannt werden!

Mein Leben und meine Bildungssituation, bevor ich in das Förderprogramm kam

Meine Lebenssituation war natürlich nicht gut, da ich in einer armen Familie aufwuchs. Ich war immer in Sorge darüber, was der nächste Tag bringen würde, weil ich keine Hoffnung für die Zukunft hatte.
Ich erinnere mich, daß ich fast die Chance verpasst hätte in die Hauptschule zu gehen. Als ich die nationale Prüfung nach der Grundschule bestanden hatte, die es Schülern ermöglicht, von der Grundschule in die Realschule zu gehen, war meine Familie völlig mittellos.

Und so gab es keine andere Wahl, als zu Hause zu bleiben, als ob nichts geschehen wäre. Ich war sehr schockiert, so dass ich nicht einmal in der Nacht schlafen konnte, sondern immer nur daran dachte, wie ich meine Ausbildung fortführen könnte.
Dann später, durch die Gnade Gottes, ich weiß nicht, wo meine Familie das Geld hernahm, kaufte sie schließlich für mich wenigstens einige wesentliche Schulmaterialien, da sie sich nicht alle erforderlichen Materialien leisten konnte, gab mir den nötigsten Betrag für das Schulgeld und schickte mich mit zwei Wochen Verzögerung in die Schule.
Meine Schule lag in der südlichen Provinz. Ich ging dorthin ohne Taschengeld, und ohne auch nur das Geld für das Ticket, das mich am Ende des ersten Trimesters zurück nach Hause bringen würde. So begann ich meine Gymnasialzeit.
Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war es nicht einfach. Von der sechsten bis zur achten Klasse lebte ich in ständiger Sorge, wo ich das Geld für die Schulgebühren und die Schulmaterialien herbekommen sollte.
Aber egal, wie schwer die Situation war, ich habe es geschafft, alle Prüfungen zu bestehen, die die Brücke zur Oberstufe bildeten. Ich wurde auf eine gute technische Schule geschickt, wo ich das vierte Jahr im Gymnasium begann. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt würde ich viel Geld für Schulgebühren und Schulbedarf benötigen.

Mein Leben und meine Bildungssituation nach dem Eintritt in das Bildungsförderprogramm

Im Jahr 2008 wurde ich in das Programm aufgenommen, gerade, als ich das 4. Jahr der Sekundarstufe begann. Von da an hat sich mein ganzes Leben verändert und wurde gut, da ich wusste, dass das Schulgeld kein Problem mehr sein würde.
Am Anfang eines jeden Trimesters bekam ich das Geld für Schulgebühren und Schulmaterialien bis zum Ende meiner Schulzeit. Und wenn sich ein unvorhergesehenes schwieriges Problem ergab, konnte ich anrufen und um Hilfe bitten.

Das Patenschaftsprogramm spielte auch bezüglich meiner Familie eine wichtige Rolle in meinem täglichen Leben, da sie mir seitdem helfen konnte, alle Probleme zu lösen, mit denen ich während der Schulzeit konfrontiert war
Ich schätze ihre Ratschläge und ihr Engagement für eine bessere Zukunft für mich wirklich sehr, was mich in die Lage versetzte, mich auf mein Studium und meine berufliche Laufbahn zu konzentrieren. So konnte ich die Abiturprüfung erfolgreich bestehen und wurde zur Universität zugelassen. Außerdem wurde mir ein staatliches Stipendium gewährt.

Zu dieser Zeit war ich so glücklich, weil ich wusste, dass ich während des Studiums ein kleines Stipendium bekommen würde. Allerdings nahm ich an, daß die Förderung durch das Patenschaftsprogramm eingestellt würde. Doch meine Patin unterstützte mich auch weiterhin bis zum Ende des Studiums, da sie wußte, daß das staatliche Stipendium nicht ausreichen würde, um allen Bedürfnissen eines Universitäts-Studenten gerecht zu werden. Und so konnte ich mit der Unterstützung durch das Patenschaftsprogramm alle Ausgaben für Unterkunft, Verpflegung und alle meine Grundbedürfnisse bezahlen.

Doch ich erhielt nicht nur finanzielle Unterstützung, sondern ein Mitarbeiter des Patenschaftsprogramms besuchte mich auch regelmäßig, sowohl in der Schule als auch zu Hause, um sicherzustellen, dass alles mit mir in Ordnung war. Auf diese Weise habe ich während meiner gesamten Ausbildungszeit kontinuierliche Begleitung durch das Programm erfahren, seit ich aufgenommen wurde.

Von diesem Moment an habe ich aufgehört, mir über das Schulgeld Sorgen zu machen, und das hat mir geholfen, mich auf mein Studium zu konzentrieren.
Die Bildungspatenschaft ist mir persönlich und meiner Familie so hilfreich gewesen, weil sie mir die verlorene Hoffnung zurückbrachte und ich fing an zu glauben, dass eine hoffnungsvolle Zukunft möglich ist.

Was wäre geschehen, wenn ich nicht die Chance gehabt hätte, von dem Patenschaftsprogramm zu profitieren?

Ich kann nicht genau sagen, was passiert wäre, wenn ich nicht die Chance gehabt hatte, von dem Bildungsförderungsprogramm zu profitieren, aber es ist offensichtlich, dass es nicht gut gewesen wäre. Entweder hätte ich die Schule aus finanziellen Gründen verlassen müssen oder hätte unter solch schlechten Bedingungen gelernt, daß ich die Schule früher oder später wegen zu schlechter Leistungen hätte verlassen müssen.

Möglichkeiten, die ich jetzt dank der Unterstützung meiner Patin und einer abgeschlossenen Schulausbildung habe

Die Unterstützung durch das Patenschaftsprogramm hat mein ganzes Leben verändert und hat mich zu dem gemacht, was ich heute bin.
Ich bin jetzt ein Ingenieur, nachdem ich mein Studium in der Fakultät für Ingenieurwissenschaften, Abteilung für Bau, Umwelt und Geomatik absolviert und im Juli 2015 erfolgreich abgeschlossen habe. Das gibt mir die Hoffnung auf einen guten Job in der kommenden Zeit, da ich mich für verschiedene Tätigkeiten auf meinem beruflichen Feld bewerben kann.
Momentan arbeite ich als Techniker, da es nicht einfach ist, einen guten Job direkt nach dem Studium zu bekommen. Diese Arbeit versetzt mich aber in jedem Fall in die Lage, für mich selbst zu sorgen und nicht meiner Familie finanziell zur Last zu fallen.

Ich hoffe sehr, daß auch andere gefährdete Kinder die gleiche Chance bekommen, die ich hatte.
Ich versichere den Sponsoren, dass ihre Unterstützung sinnvoll und ein existenziell wichtiger Beitrag für die bedürftigen Kinder ist, und ich ermutige sie, ihre Hilfsbereitschaft zu behalten!

In diesem Zusammenhang möchte ich zunächst dem Gründer des Förderprogramms, Pastor Gerhard Reuther, danken und allen Mitgliedern des 1Welt-Kreises. Mein besonderer Dank geht an meine Patin, die mir erschien wie ein Engel vom Himmel gesandt, um mein Leben zu verändern.
Denn alle Unterstützung, die mir von dem Patenschaftsprogramm zuteilwurde, kam von ihr.
Ich kann mit Stolz sagen, dass sie diejenige ist, die mich zu dem gemacht hat, der ich heute bin.
Ich möchte noch einmal Pastor Gerhard danken, der den Kontakt zwischen meiner Patin und mir vermittelt hat.
